Heh, I never really understood this "keep coming back to slack" sentence.
After I settled with Slackware I never had any desire to try any other distro...

AxeZ, I think it's the innate passion for Slackers to tinker.
I tinker with everything; my car, my guitars, my computers, my furniture -- you name it. If it can do something it wasn't intended to do, well by God, I'm going to get that to happen.

So I think we all like to see what else is out there, what else is lurking. What's new and exciting that I'm missing?

Well, in a nutshell, nothing significant that Slackware doesn't already give you. Hence, "I always keep coming back to Slackware."

Bingo.

I still want Ubuntu to be a useful system, because I like and respect the creators, and their vision. It's just a bit, er, wonky on my system, so my guess is that I'm out of luck. So yes, for me, it's "back to Slackware" - though no promises I'll not try Mepis next, on my alternate machine.

Ok, this isn't really a question. But I recently switched over to Slackware linux from using Windows XP [and never even touched linux]. I did the switch because my XP filesystem became messed up and I didn't have the cd anymore to install it again. So I installed Debian, and didnt like it.

A [gentoo user] friend of mine said that he has heard good stuff about the newer slackwares. So i download and install. The installation process was pretty much painless. The only problems I can into were setuping up my DSL and my usb house. This was early August, and I havn't used Windows since! I am in love with this OS, given I havn't tried anything else but Slack and Debian, but whenever I mention to people that I'm using Slack they go "ooooo! the hacker OS" which makes me laugh.

Also, I was wondering why all of you switched to Slackware [and from what OS] and how was the switch for you?

So far I would recommend Slackware if your planning on installing linux.

Thanks

Nitzer
Switched from windows late last year, went over to FC3, i was new to Linux, had only been using UNIX for a while in classes and didn't want to jump in deep too soon. Got used to things, got better with the shell, and jumped head first into Slack. never looked back.

Converted one friend to Slackware alread, have two more in the works (they just haven't made up their minds about ditching MS, but they will).

Slack was my first Linux distro. Switched to Slack from DOS.
