when .tgz files are downloaded they turn into .tar files?!?!

Everytime I download the eciadsl-usermode-0.11-i486.tgz driver from http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/download.php?lang=en the .tgz file ends up as a .tar file when I finish downloading it.

And I need it to be .tgz to be able to carry out the installation properly.

Does anyone know what is wrong?

http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/download...-0.11-i486.tgz is downloaded as a .tgz for me.

That sounds weird, I got a .tgz file upon downloading, are you sure you downloaded the right file? And if you are, have you tried renaming it to .tgz and then tried to install?

Heres a screenshot:

Thats the exact same file as you guys click on, but when the download dialogue opens up it says its a .tar file, when it finishes downloading its .tar too.

I haven't tried renaming it yet, but i'll try.

Just re-name. (Or use Linux)

Well, a .tgz file /is/ a compressed tar archive. A Windows/IE problem? Do you have another browser (e.g. Firefox, Opera) to try it with?

XavierP 12-16-2005 06:26 PM

It could just be an IE thing. Try with Firefox or install wget for Windows and use that.

Ok sorry for the late reply, yeah I've got firefox so I'll try with that and if it still doesn't work I'll rename the file myself. Thanks for the help.

Just so you know, it is IE and Windows, same thing happens to me, though I just rename it back to .tgz and it works fine.

Flz 12-18-2005 11:20 AM

Yeah it definately is IE. I downloaded it from Firefox and it stays as a .tgz file.
