First time I installed both cd slackware 10 and when I would log in my internet connection would get cut off when kde or gnome were loading.I usr eth0 with dsl always on.So I installed wit just the first cd and could log in to fluxbox fine, from startx or xdm. Then used swaret to install kde same thing, next time everything ok with cd1 and fluxbox install dropline gnome same thing, now I'm afraid to install anything.I have zero clue, please help, thanks david
I have never done that,I know when I lose the connection because the modem light for ethernet go's out and the ready light starts flashing red, I connect with dhcp and never had any problems before, either during the gui login or when I launch a browser I get cut off.
If you login in text mode, is your connection working? Can you:
Code:
ping www.google.com (control-c to exit)
/sbin/ifconfig eth0
If you get responses from google, you should be good.
ifconfig eth0 will spit out the IP address and various other information of your NIC -- We do this to verify that dhcp assigned you an address, if your ping command didn't work.
If you're good to go in text-mode, we need to figure out what the heck is happening when you start X that kills your connection.
Another thing to try --
After you lose your connection, open up an xterm and su to root. Then, try reassigning your IP through dhcp with this command:
Thanks It did it again and I just reinstalled so next time I will try your tips, seems like it has something to do with hotplug or seems to happen after I try to get cups working for my printer? Thanks again I hope it doesn't do it again, after I get nvidia working and alot of other stuff the way I like it,later david
also don't know if this has anything to do with it but after hardware detection says
usr/lib/libcupsimage.so.2
is not a symbolic link
usr/lib/libcups.so.2
