When do you update/upgrade the kernel ?

I use one that comes with my version of Slackware
I use a stable LTS branch
I use the most recent stable branch
I use the mainline kernel (RCs and development)
I update/upgrade for features or device support
I update/upgrade for security fixes

nowadays I use one that comes with my version of Slackware

For me, it depends..

If its a "slackware appliance" such as my htpc or a small router machine, I will usually customize the kernels, fine tune them for speed/lightweight, performance and tailor them specifically for the machine hardware, etc..

If its a multi-purpose machine such as my main desktop machine, I am more than happy with the generic kernel that comes with slack's install media or filetree..

I only upgrade kernels when I have to reinstall slack fresh or build a new machine, otherwise, I really dont see the benefit to update every time a new kernel comes out...
