Wrong. Try to install Slackware{64} 14.1 with a recent kernel on a last-generation laptop with some hybrid Intel/NVidia card and appreciate the results.
You may be right as I would never know since I rarely use laptops and would never buy an Optimus system. That said, what do you expect to see in 14.2 that will make this easier?
While I realize the entire question does deserve all the lighthearted playfulness it has received, I'd like to ask a serious question.
Exactly where did this obsession, and devotion to the fallacy of "New and Improved!", become such an obsession? How many people really can't run even 14.0 with an updated kernel because of some hard requirement it doesn't meet? What can't you do now that seriously affects your productivity? Or is it the same people that believe putting an after-market spoiler on a Geo actually improves performance?
OK that may have been a bit harsh but honestly there are games that take a decade to develop and many months for an expansion pack but who cares if there is some minor glitch? That is not at all the same for a serious operating system. Relax. It'll get here when it's perfect, as always.
Millions of man months have been poured into the latest distribution, from people all over the world, and I'm eager to see what they've been up to. May I have permission to feel the least bit excited? Thanks.
@myk267 - I think you may have misunderstood me which is entirely possible with text only and somewhat sensitive subjects (not to mention I can be as dense as anyone), but I am excited, too. I don't see how being excited must translate into useless speculation since we all know Patrick will release it when he's pleased it's a thoroughly rewarding and deserving release. I think that's exactly why we get excited. He has yet to let us down, right?

I don't see the harm in speculation. Actually, I wouldn't call it useless. Around the time one of these threads shows up, not long after (the value of length here is about as long as a piece of string), a release happens. The LQ brass are still working out whether a Slackware release starts before or after the inquiry of if it's near time for a release or not. The answer to that question will be released, I'm told, when it's ready.
This could be an indication that Slackware 14.2 is planned to be released real soon now.
Feel free to speculate :-) But I picked coming monday for liveslak-1.0.0 because it's my birthday then and it seemed like a nice present to the community.

Sometimes I get to choose the hardware my clients buy, but more often than not, I don't. Since around January, I got to install -current and my own addons on some laptops not supported by Slackware 14.1. And that is an unsatisfying workaround.
Distribution: Slackware/Salix while testing others
