The best way to answer your questions is go ahead and try it out. I would re-partition my hard disk with gparted or parted. You might want to try a Slack derived live CD like Slax or Zenwalk to check for hardware compatability, and to partition.

Some idea on how experienced you are would help us guide you better. Java is available on Slackware but I am not well versed on the matter, someone else ought to shed some light on this matter.

Chris

Eclipse or Netbeans both work fine on Slackware.

Hi angelm4

It's hard to be sure about your hardware, but support for intel graphics is good.

As Chris says, just go ahead and try installing it, but make sure to read the docs first though - see onebuck's sticky post at the top of this forum.

I code in Java on my slackware 12.1 laptop - no issues at all. Slackware comes with jdk6, though you have to get it from the slackware/slackware-12.1/extra/jdk-6 on the CD/DVD or one of the online mirrors and then install it:
Code:
installpkg jdk-6u6-i586-3.tgz
I use the netbeans IDE which I installed using the slackbuild from slackbuilds.org.

Good luck!

The easiest way to find this out would be to go to TuxMobil and Linux on Laptops to see if other people had been successful installing Linux on that laptop.

Yes, "linux." If any distribution works, Slackware will too.

How are you used to doing it on Windows? All we can say is that the Linux and Windows versions of Eclipse, Netbeans and the JDK (with all its command-line tools) are identical.
