What happened to ivtv-utils?
Hi all!
I have only just realized that I had never installed ivtv-utils on my Slackware 13.37 (32-bit) system, so I went to the SlackBuilds site to get the package; but, where the heck is it? I first checked for version 13.37, and tried "ivtv-utils" and then "ivtvutils", and just about every other combo I could think of, and got nothing! Then I tried looking for a version for Slackware 14, and got the same result! What's going on? I still need ivtv-tune for tuning my old Hauppauge 150 PVR card! I can't believe that not only isn't ivtv-utils still maintained, but that it has been wiped off of the packages list altogether? I know it WAS there, because I had it on my OTHER Slackware 13.37 machine, whose HD has since "died"...; now how do I get it? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! ZTagr. |
The ivtv tools as they existed do not appear to be maintained any longer.
For manipulating a pvr 150, there are some options: v4lctl command, part of xawtv, can set channels, frequency tables, change input modes and such on PVR 150s. Read about it here: http://linux.about.com/library/cmd/blcmdl1_v4lctl.htm It is currently maintained, but does not have a slackbuild (since about Slack 11.0, I believe) However, it can be compiled the old-fashioned way and the source is to be found here: http://linuxtv.org/downloads/xawtv/ Or you can dowload the archived source for the old ivtv utils from here http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Main_Page and compile it. Maybe its ivtv-tune will work. |
just found this

It has been such a long time since I was actively installing packages on my Slackware system, maybe I just thought I acquired ivtv-utils at SlackBuilds!? Maybe someone turned me on to a location that I could get it from. I only know that I DID have it running on my other Slackware 13.37-based system before it went "South" on me ... I will try and get the normal source package and build it from that. I just wonder what version would be best for Slackware 13.37? Ah, a little internet research, I guess :-} Thanks again! ZTagr. |

That was way back when I first began using Linux / Slackware! I did a search for similiar postings on my question before I posted this one, and never saw this! My own posting from 2011... Yeah, this really helps, 'cause now I know I didn't get ivtv-utils from SlackBuilds (although I would have sworn I had!) - so I must have got the package elsewhere... I never used v4l2-ctl to tune my Hauppauge 150, but I have the frequency table for my cable TV provider now, so I guess I should try THAT method of tuning my card!!! Thanks for finding my original posting from way back, and bringing it to my attention, ponce! That is a lot of help (and a little trip down memory lane, as well :-} ) Later, ZTagr |
