When something familiar to you, and something you really like is yanked away from you (aka KDE3.5) and replaced with something unfamiliar and strange (aka KDE4)... it makes you whine...

I switched to Fluxbox full time after KDE 4.0 first hit the pavement because it was simply awful! I also switched from Mandriva to Slackware for the same reason (aka KDE4). So I have used Fluxbox through the SW 12.1/12.2 cycle, and I love it by the way!

But I really hoped that KDE 4 would reach a maturity where I could get over it and become a really happy KDE user again. So with my first SW13 install about a week ago I really, really, really did try to use KDE 4 once more (my third real effort by the way...)...

No use. KDE is now but a memory and Fluxbox is my new fully committed love! So now I will whine no more as I have no more expectation of using KDE again.

Only if you let the change adversely affect your behavior. I say, rise above the temptation!

I like KDE4.3 but not 4.2.4, 4.3 has a polished look and a neat appearance about it, I use it with Arch. In slack I use LXDE.

I have fvwm on Slack13/current and Slack64-13/current. The feel is largely modeled on evilwm on both systems and the look is similar on the 32-bit system. I build my own fvwm 2.5.27, though, rather than using Slack's 2.4.x.

I reached the point of no return years ago, I think. fvwm fits me like a glove and everything else is mittens. Or, in the case of KDE or Gnome, concrete overshoes or pom-poms or something.

LXDE

KDE 4.2 branch with Compiz-Fusion and Emerald (my own theme based on trueglass).

Xfce. Switched to it from Gnome while still on ubuntu (still my primary Linux) about a month ago and like it very well. Haven't used any others but have read a lot about many and am looking for quick and simple. Will try further in that direction after mastering Xfce. KDE doesn't sound like my cup of tea.

fvwm. It's infinitely configurable. If you stick with it, and tinker a little now and then, you eventually get it exactly as you want and can't imagine living with anything else.

I've been using KDE for four years now, but today I saw version 4 for the first time. It's so different than 3, that I'm seriously thinking of switching to blackbox... (at least, I'm more familiar with that...)

Hell, I once used Blackbox and I kind of liked it... but now I'm using KDE4..

If you liked blackbox you will (hopefully) love Fluxbox (based on Blackbox)!

KDE4 made me a full time Fluxer! No regrets! (KDE4 comments to follow soon in one of these threads - as soon as I get theh nerve :-) ).

Well after one day messing around with KDE 4, I finally did it. I switched to blackbox. The only problem is switching to greek keyboard, but I have 2 more boxes which can do that...

Is there any way to get the entire list of apps [ie in LXDe there is a menu which categorise all the apps installed] in fluxbox? It is not possible to add everything in the right click menu.

I'm not sure what you mean, but 'fluxbox-generate_menu' will auto-generate a menu of all the apps on the system it knows about and you can edit it from there.

-- Oh, be warned that it will replace whatever menu you do have. If I'm not mistaken, it moves your current menu to a backup rather than simply overwriting it, but it's still worth noting. Especially as running it again will replace the original backup.

EDIT: Nope that still didn't fetch all the applications installed by slackware by default, let alone the stuffs I have installed manually.
