Firstly, I usually don't yell...

Secondly, this is a forum board, however,
it is (in my not so humble opinion) not really
necessary to answer the very same thing
for the umpteenth time, if a search could have
revealed the answer within seconds, rather
than taking the time to write the question,
and then wait for someone else to come
along and do it for you. To me, this behaviour
reduces people on this board to "dancing
paper-clips". And we're NOT (well, I'm speaking
for myself, but believe other old timers might
think they're neither).
And I strongly believe that "using Linux"
should go along with a DIY-mentality, not
the idea of "feed me while you change my
nappies" one...

Thirdly, I feel a bit like a teacher. I certainly
don't get a kick out of posting the same thing
as to appear well-informed and friendly. My
wild guess is that MANY people come here
because they found a hit on Google. The funny
thing is, once they're here, they forget how
to search? I'd rather be in a community of
mature and responsible people than sh*tty
teen-agers...

And yes, your attitude indeed makes me
somewhat disgruntled ... :)

If that was supposed to be nasty by suggesting someone search first, they should post a question like that over on usenet at aols.... They will think Tink is a pussycat.

Personally, just from reading Tink's posts (even his rebukes ) I've gained a respect for him and a desire to try Slackware. On his enthusiasm for Slack alone, I've downloaded Slack 8.1, Slack 9.1 CD 1 & 2, and the Slack Live CD (although it doesn't play well on my comp). When I get a little time and replace the Knoppix distro I installed on my wife and daughter's comp, I am definitely going to give Slack a try. Just haven't decided between 8.1 and 9.1 yet.

Seriously, I value Tinkster's input as well as many others here. ANYONE who takes the time to help in a setting such as this forum, is alright in my book.

It isn't always the most appealing thing to answer the same ?s over and over again...but most people here do it, even Tinkster . Then...if no one tells them to use the search, they never will. That's just the way it is.

Just my 2 cents...

I just had a read through all this. And I'm afraid I must agree with Tinkster on this - searching for your answer first will save a lot of time. If you post a question you may not get an answer for 24 hours or more, do a search and you may the answer almost immediately.

From the Rules: Although this refers to actual homework, it applies in this case.

Doing a search can also help because ou can find all the various permutations of your problem rather than wading through question after question on your thread and becoming frustrated.
