I can see why people would want to use GRUB... in fact, I was planning to switch over to it with my upgrade to Slackware 13.1... but then I did some research into it and discovered the sad state of affairs as described by sahko above.
LILO has been my boot loader since 1999, and apparently it remain so for the foreseeable future.
I've used both LILO and GRUB and they are both fine with me. I'm using LILO on three systems right now, and GRUB on one. I like the fact that LILO is always dependable and easy to set up. Since legacy GRUB is no longer maintained, I'm not going to install GRUB on any more systems until GRUB2 is reliable and well supported. It's a pity that the only two boot loaders for Linux are both long in the tooth and either extremely slow in development (GRUB) or essentially static (LILO).
