I'm in the process of installing Slackware 13.1 on my old IBM A22m laptop.
Since version 12, I've used WPA_supplicant and the Madwifi drive to set up my wireless connection (using a PCMCIA D-Link card). It has worked great all along, up through Slackware 13.
Can't speak for Slackware in particular, but my Asus that I recently got rid of had Atheros, and Kubuntu and Debian Squeeze both had the module built into the default kernel, no need to add it.
Anyway, what's the latest/best way to set up wireless with an Atheros chipset? Are there Madwifi packages available for Slackware 13.1?
I'm using madwifi on 13.1 (x86_64 mulitlib). Basically I've taken the SBo scripts and modified them to use the latest svn code from madwifi. I'm at work right now so won't be able to provide details...I'll post the script later today.
BTW, I'm using wicd to manage the wireless connection and it has been working great so far.
Atheros drivers have been in the kernel for some time now - probably since 13.0. AFAIK you only need madwifi if you want to set up an AP, for normal wifi connections the Atheros modules work fine.
Wicd sees my card just fine without me needing to install the drivers.
Now Wicd won't connect to my network (which it sees just fine). It keeps giving me a "Bad Password" error even though the password is correct. I'm going to double-check and possibly reset my wireless router settings and see if that helps.
