Weird Sound/Upgrade Problem

So, every thing worked hunky-dory in Slackware 10.2, then I did a swaret --upgrade to slackware-current, and everything still seems to be hunky dory, except that sound mysteriously disappeared. (It was definitely working before.)

alsaconf gives me:

"modinfo: snd: no module by that name found" [twice]

and then proceeds to detect no sound cards.

chmod a+x on /dev/dsp* and /dev/mixer* also didn't help.

So, I'm really at a loss as to where my sound drivers went. For the record, I have some onboard sound on an nVidia nForce2 motherboard, and I'm running kernel 2.4.31, if that helps.

Here's lsmod:
Module Size Used by Tainted: P
soundcore 3396 0 (autoclean)
fglrx 387944 6
usbkbd 2936 0 (unused)
usb-ohci 19368 0 (unused)
ehci-hcd 17516 0 (unused)
forcedeth 9868 1
ntfs 51232 1 (autoclean)
ide-scsi 9392 0
usbmouse 1880 0 (unused)
keybdev 1892 0 (unused)
mousedev 4020 1
hid 20868 0 (unused)
input 3200 0 [usbkbd usbmouse keybdev mousedev hid]
usbcore 59148 1 [usbkbd usb-ohci ehci-hcd usbmouse hid]
agpgart 45508 4

Any help would be *wonderful*.

Download the correct alsa-driver package for your kernel version.

First of all:
Quote:
chmod a+x on /dev/dsp* and /dev/mixer*
is not the best, the linuxest solution. try adding user to various groups (ie. sound).

Second:
Your alsa-conf (thus alsa-utils) should be the newest. Try hashing (adding #) to lines containing EXCLUDE in /etc/swaret.conf.

Third:
try google

Thanks. I reverted to the alsa drivers in 10.2 and everything seems to work again now.
