Unhappy Weird problem with lilo in Slack 10.1

I have a really weird problem, I've installed Slack 10.1, and then tried to configure lilo by editing /etc/lilo.conf. It had absolutely no effect. I even erased lilo.conf, still no effect. I suppose it's getting it's config file from somewhere else... where?
