weird kernel problem and fs mount problem
 

hi,
i've just installed slackware 9.1 for the first time and i am having a major problem.
when i try to do a modprobe i get a message that the file /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk/modules.dep can't be loaded.
This is normal because the directory 2.4.22-10mdk doesn't exist.
the 2.4.22-10mdk kernel is a mandrake kernel, and i have no idea why slackware thinks that i am using that kernel.
I do have a dir /lib/modules/2.4.22 wich contains all the modules and drivers but when i copy those files to /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk and try modprobe i get an error that those modules are for use with the 2.4.22 kernel.

When I installed Slackware I installed the bare.i kernel and I have no idea where the 2.4.22-10mdk comes from (i do have mandrake 9.2 installed on another partition)

even when I do a uname -r it tells me that i am using kernel 2.4.22-10mdk



I also have another problem, being that I can't mount ext3 partiotions, slackware tells me that it is not supported by the kernel while slackware itself is installed on an ext3 partition.

Please help me cause I really want to get away from Mandrake since it's so buggy.

hmm.. that sounds funny.... i think you have a a lilo/grub problem... are you sure you are booting into slackware???

I configured lilo myself so i'm sure it boots slackware ( It kinda looks different too :) )

When i get home i'll post my lilo.conf on this forum so you can see if something is wrong

Sounds like you are booting your mandrake kernel and then mount Slackware as / file system. You need to change /etc/lilo.conf so that it points to your Slackware kernel.

i've reinstalled slackware and uninstalled mandrake, and now its working great.
