been there alot lately and i don't know why. I've recompiled changing everysetting I can think of and the only thing I can think of is that my vid card is dying. I crash in winblows too.

I even still get xmms playing in the background and if i am encoding that still runs too but X is locked.

Anybody have any ideas?

which one should i check?

syslog.1 just has the regular messages i get. "can't locate module char-major-116 and char-major-10-134". there was nothing else new.
Code:
Feb 29 04:24:50 myhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-116
Feb 29 04:25:14 myhost last message repeated 7 times
Feb 29 04:25:45 myhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-10-134
Feb 29 04:29:19 myhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-10-134
that was the last message. i waited 10 mins before switching off the power. won't go to ttys, diff desktop, application, etc. but the mouse moves.
