Weird Framebuffer probelms.

I recently compiled the 2.6.15.4 kernel for SMP support on my Slackware 10.2 installation. My fonts in textmode were rather large upon booting. I messed with framebuffer in /etc/lilo.conf and nothing would change. So I figured out I did not compile framebuffer in my kernel, so I recompiled. Now if I change the framebuffer in lilo.conf to anything but normal I get colored dots on my screen when I change to a virtual server. Here is my lilo.conf:
Code:
# LILO configuration file
# generated by 'liloconfig'
#
# Start LILO global section

boot = /dev/hda
message = /boot/boot_message.txt
prompt
timeout = 1200
# Override dangerous defaults that rewrite the partition table:
change-rules
  reset

 vga = normal
# vga=799

# vga=791
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x32k

# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x256
# vga=769
# End LILO global section
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz
  root = /dev/hda2
  label = Linux-2.6
  read-only
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Windows bootable partition config begins

I am running a GeForce 3 TI200 with 1024x768@85hz display on my monitor and I am running the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8178 driver. I get the nvidia splash when starting X and glxinfo is fine, so its not Nvidia.
I also tried adding CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y to /usr/src/linux/.config with no luck. If anyone has any ideals, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Theres a problem with nvidia drivers and framebuffers, but, you dont normally notice it until you either exit X or switch to another vt. Usually you can boot ok but as soon as you try to use a vt after running x you get green blocks or scrambled text.

I would say it would be worth posting about it on the nv forum http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14

They may fix it if enough people complain. Normally the only was to avoid this is to compile framebuffer out of the kernel and use vga=normal

Framebuffer fixed, http://www.linuxpackages.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7229

Had to add to xorg.conf, under Devices:
Code:
# Nick 24/07/2004 - attempt to stop corruption exiting X
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT"
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "TV"

I dont have a tv card just my GeForce 3 TI200, but hey it works. The only thing is I do not see the two tuxes at the top but oh well. Im just glad I did not have to recompile again.

Thanks

Voodoo 3dfx 3500 TV

I have the exact same problem. The stock kernel(2.4.22) boots fine. The One I hand compiled 2.4.31 will display all the gibberish during bootup. I have to rely on my typing skills to startx. Also the virtual teminals all show gibberish. I have compiled framebuffer support and tdfxfb into the kernel, I have stripped the kernel off of compiled fonts and tried various lilo options but to no avail. I am wondering if this will work at all or I have to go to 2.6 series of kernels.
