web server hangs - help needed to diagnose
Hi all,
I don't really know if this is a hardware or software issue, so I just decided to post it here.
I have a server running apache 1.x which sits behind a router which has a cable connection to the internet. The server usually works fine, but sometimes, when accessing it from the WAN, it just hangs indefinitely. When this happens, the browser hangs on "connecting to ...". The apache logs show that the request has not reached it. So the "hang-up" would seem to be somewhere at the router level? When ever the browser message changes from Connecting to Waiting I get the response quickly.
Edit for clarity:
Whenever trying to access my web server, 1 of 2 things happens:
1. Browser connecting status quickly changes to "Waiting", and my page is quickly served to me.
2. Browser hangs on connecting status, this status remains until the timeout message appears or I hit stop. No entry is made in the server access logs. This can happen repeatedly.
/Edit
Really, I don't know how to identify the bottleneck and would appreciate some advice.
Brian
