i guess it might help if i put the lilo.conf in here:

Code:
image = /boot/vmlinuz
  root = /dev/sda3
  label = Slackware
  read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz
  root = /dev/sda5
  label = Foresight
  read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# Windows bootable partition config begins
other = /dev/sda1
  label = WindowsXP
  table = /dev/sda
# Windows bootable partition config ends
this was all created using liloconfig

Is the drive a SATA drive? Are you using kernel 2.6 and udev(you still need devs installed)

ok so i installed grub to the mbr and lilo on the root, added an chainloader entry to menu.lst and had lilo boot first os immediately...and it works.

This is a problem that has been mentioned several times. I also had it happen and it got "fixed" by running LILO again. This is not a solution since nobody has figured out what is actually going wrong.
