Warning! Slackpkg

Hey all!

Just a word of warning. I installed Slack 10.2 earlier and then slackpkg off cd 3. I uncommented one of the repositories, and got on with slackpkg upgrade-all.

I had uncommented one of the sites for Slack 10.1, which have oddly enough been left in the mirrors file. So I have just 'upgraded' all my software to previous versions.

Just make sure you're uncommenting the right line.

A good cautionary tale. So, to everyone: Read, Understand, Read Understand, Do. Repeat as necessary.

Also, think about what you are doing. If you just did a fresh install of Slackware 10.2, what are you hoping to upgrade. Slackware 10.2 was just released on 9/13/2005, and there have been no updates to it since then.

Proving once again, don't use auto updating programs if you are unable or unwilling to read the changelogs and monitor what is happening on your system.

in additional, I find the slackpkg can not backup exist config-file such as /etc/ssh/sshd_config when you upgrade your pkg,
all of my pkg's conf-file was gone after upgrading.

Slackpkg/pkgtool doesn't automatically overwrite your config files unless you tell it to do so. It prompts you for what you want to do with new config files. If you chose to overwrite them, that's your fault, not the program's fault. That's exactly why it prompts you.

Sorry, I test slackpkg upgrade again , It's certain prompt whether or not overwrite exist conf-file.
I'm careless before.
