Try using wacom module that is present in Linux kernel rather then the one from the project. Simply compile your own kernel with wacom tablets support compiled in (or compiled as a module if you prefer).

Your right on the money. After adding the Wacom support to the kernel it worked like a champ. I did however have problems with the clicker on the pen which I am still working on figuring out. I tried to compile it as a module and had less than stellar results. Its worth the extra time it takes to recompile.

In this Slackware 13.0, I'm using SlackBuild script from SBo for linuxwacom, but with the version 0.8.4-3 of the driver from linuxwacom's site, because the version in SBo didn't work for me. Other than that I did the same, both udev rules and edit xorg.conf, the clicker on the pen works too
