vlc-20111016 sounds tinny and scratchy

VLC has never caused a problem before now. I am using AlienBob's latest git package. The problem is that sound is scratchy, tinny, and squeals somewhat. There also seems to be an echo effect. I am running -current, but other than that, I have not changed anything else. All other media players sound fine.

I have removed and reinstalled vlc, but still the sound problem exists.

Go to preferences -> audio and see what device you're using for audio output. See if any filters are enabled and disable all of them and try again.

Alternative delete the .vlc/ folder from your home directory and relaunch vlc to ensure that everything is set to default.

The first thing I looked for was a .vlc folder. That does not exist. That's why I removed it and reinstalled. I figured that would have fixed a bad setting problem.

I went and disabled everything in filters and now it seems to be fine again. Son-of-a-gun! At least the sound is ok.

Glad to know that it works now. Yes, usually tinny sound or tearing bass is related to some filter that is set too high or low for the capability of your speakers.
