[SOLVED] VirtualBox on Slackware64-multilib only shows 32 bit client machine builds?

I installed the Oracle binary VirtualBox for amd64 under Slackware64-multilib. It installed find and I placed my user in the vboxusers group. I can start the VirtualBox GUI and loaded the extensions pack. However, when I create a new virtual machine only 32Bit versions are offered. I understood that both 64-bit and 32-bit machines should be supported on a 64 bit version of Slackware. My PC BIOS and CPU does NOT have the VTx switch available. I've read all the threads on LQ and even DDG'd many articles where some Slackware users say they too have VirtualBox on Slackware multilib. But what isn't clear is if they have 64-bit clients. So...

1. Can a multilib user please confirm if they have 64 bit clients running or only 32 bit?
2. IF 64 bit yes in question 1, THEN do you have your CPU virtualation bit set to yes?
3. IF VTx bit no in queston 2, THEN what steps did you use to install VirtualBox in order to get 64 Bit client support?

Buy a decent new motherboard and processor, then decide what you run: 32 bits or 64 bits? Running both the same time usually is just loss of time and sanity, with no gain.

Or you believe that you are the new cool kid from the block, because your OS is "multilib"?

I agree with 55020. That switch needs to be flipped in the BIOS to enable 64bit clients.

Have you checked with your manufacturer to see if there is a BIOS/UEFI update that may add that option?

I know... and if that switch isn't available with a BIOS/UEFI update, then, as far as I know, 64bit clients are not supported (at least with VirtualBox).

That's what I was thinking. I'll have to try QEMU instead. Unforunately I'm running a Pentium D 820 and it doesn't have VTx support in the CPU. It's a entry level PC and I only want the Windows virtual machine to run a few apps that won't run in WINE, like SlingTV. Oh well. I'm sorry to bother you all, after posting I did some more digging and did find the VTx requirement for both VMWare and VirtualBox to get 64 bit guest support. Actually I could just run 32-bit Windows since I have a boxed license laying around here and it should do the job. Thanks I'll mark this SOLVED>
