[SOLVED] Virtualbox 5.0.14 from SBo error Callee RC: NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED (0x80040154)

So suddenly Virtualbox stopped working and I get this error:

Callee RC:
NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED (0x80040154)

And I've rebooted, removed everything from /tmp/ checked to see if for some reason the permissions on tmp changed rebooted rebuilt the kernel and the entire package and I still get the same error, any suggestion?

Hello,

I don't have this issue. However, I can reproduce it by changing permissioons on /tmp as below :

Code:

$ stat -c "%a %n" /tmp
$ 1777 /tmp

$ chmod ug+s /tmp
$ VBoxManage list vms
VBoxManage: error: Failed to create the VirtualBox object!
VBoxManage: error: Code NS_ERROR_FACTORY_NOT_REGISTERED (0x80040154) - Class not registered (extended $
VBoxManage: error: Most likely, the VirtualBox COM server is not running or failed to start.

Reset permissions on /tmp to their default solves the issue :

$ chmod ug-s /tmp
$ VBoxManage list vms
"slackware" {43a11d1f-98e8-4913-8048-295c096ab7d9}
"slackware64" {a6879eb9-c533-4b00-9273-d05504575d6c}
