You could also check out my portable-qemu

plays most distro's on windows or linux, from usb, cd, or hd

its script-driven and includes install & run scripts for windows and linux
also utilizes kvm(I think)

so, you can make a vhd with the script, partition it and install whatever,
and carry it on cd or usb too

it's great for remastering, or just learning linux without risking anyhting

you wanna try it?
its like 5-7mb

It says to use the VBoxManage clonehd command instead.
Ah, I missed that one in my searches then... Thanks for the link!

great as it sounds, but I run kvm/qemu only from linux, don't need it to be portable and I don't run Windows anymore. There were 2 reasons for me to try out KVM and Qemu, the major being 64-bit, the lesser performance.. I use my virtual machines to create as clean as possible packages for those packages I maintain. If you think I'm part of the audience your portable qemu aims at, then sure I'm willing to give it a shot. If not, you could still provide links where to obtain this, as I'm sure some people will love it. My aim for this thread was mostly to get and provide ideas on virtual machine usage in Linux.

Any thoughts on which one is better than the other for Slackware 13 64 bit?

Are you talking about having Slackware 13 64 bit on the host? If so, I think you'll need PAM to get VMWare Server 2 working. I have VirtualBox on a Slackware 13 64 bit box (1 GB RAM total) here and it's running a Win XP guest with no problems.
