vim & aspell configuration

every time i want to check a file using a british dictionary i have to use aspell -c -d en_GB
i want this to be defualt so i dont have to keep typing the options in, i looked at the documentation but im not clear on how to do it.

similar thing with vim, i want to use -N [Non-compatible mode] how do you add it to the config file as a default instead of having to pass -N every time?

I do not use aspell, but I can make a little suggestion: Most shells support aliases for commands. If you are using bash, type:
$ alias aspell='aspell -c -d en_GB'
with csh:
$ alias aspell aspell -c -d en_GB

You could do the same thing with Vim, but it is better to set an option in .exrc or .vimrc in your home directory. Start Vim, jump to the end of the file (G), append a new line (o) and type:
set nocompatible
Hit escape, save and exit (ZZ) and start Vim again.

Hope I could help!

hi the alais worked great for aspell!

but for vim i couldnt find .exrc or .vimrc files in my home directory? as you said i could just use an alais, but why no config directory?

Code:
ed@HELIX:~$ ls -a
.                     .fonts       .mozilla        Desktop
..                    .fonts.conf  .qt             OpenOffice.org1.1.4
.DCOPserver_HELIX_:0  .gaim        .realplayerrc   docs
.DCOPserver_HELIX__0  .gftp        .recently-used  downloads
.ICEauthority         .gimp-2.2    .screenrc       media
.Xauthority           .gxine       .sversionrc     notes
.adobe                .kde         .thumbnails     pics
.aspell.en.prepl      .kderc       .viminfo        programs
.aspell.en.pws        .local       .weblink        website
.bash_history         .mailcap     .xine
.config               .mcop        .xmms
.firefox              .mime.types  .xscreensaver
.viminfo has just got a log of documents and text i changed while using vim.

I think it should be possible to create one of those files. I know that there is .exrc on SuSE and .vimrc on Mandrake, and they work the same.
What you could alternatively try is to look for a file /etc/vimrc or /etc/vim/vimrc.
