Viewing file with chinese name in vfat format drive

Hi:

I have a dual boot system and I have a data drive which is in FAT32 format, such that the data inside can be read and write by both linux and window XP. However, I have a lot of file with chinese file name in that drive, and it display junk when I open up the file browser in Gnome 2.6, I don't really want to input chinese in linux, I just want to be able to view chinese file name, what should I do?

Thanks,
Herman

Hi

How about remount it with "codepage=950,iocharset=big5" options?

It's for traditional chinese, use codepage=936, iocharset=gb2312 for simplify chinese.

Oh yes... stupid me... this is a slackware forum. Well how about start with install some Chinese fonts first?

Some great people at Taiwan had created CLE, Chinese Linux Environment, you can find CLE packages for Slackware 9.1 in here:

ftp://cle.linux.org.tw/pub/CLE/devel...kware-9.1/cle/

You can download and install all packages, but you probably don't need all if you just wants to display Chinese, read those .txt file for what each package do.

I'm sure you can get more help in their forum, http://www.slackware.org.tw, as there's a Chinese Localisation section.
