video-problems with slackware10

Since I have slackware 10, I have problems to play videos.
Some Mpgs have green artifacts (not all and it doesn't matter what player is used). Playing DVDs with xine I get a black window or black fullscreen, but sound, without error-messages.
My graphic card is a radeon 9600 and I installed different video drivers (generic X-drivers and ati-drivers). I have the problems with kernel 2.4.26 and 2.6.7.
Any ideas

Have you all required packages like libdvdread, libdvdcss and maybe mpeg_lib. Some video require additional codecs too, generally for this reason I prefer compile mplayer rather than install it as a package, just to be sure I have all the codecs.

I removed the Xine-package and compiled it. I got the same problem.
But with MPlayer it works.
Thanks
