via ple133 drivers!????

Help... I have reciently gotten an upgrade from a pos p1 200mhz to a p3 650mhz, but this new board has an onboard Vid card that reads as agp ( according to agpgart ). It is a Via Apollo ple133. I have strained and strained, and no poop ( no driver can be found ). I have tried several, and they all give me the same errors. I.E. upon startup "Depmod" give the error "***unresolved charactors in file" (path/device). and modprobe says

"/lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/video/trident.o.gz: couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled for
/lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/video/trident.o.gz: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/video/trident.o.gz failed
/lib/modules/2.4.31/kernel/drivers/video/trident.o.gz: insmod trident failed"

I know that i'm trying to load a driver for a trident card, but the ple133 driver is supposedly inside this file... or is it? I got this from www.Viaarena.com or something, it came with a "src" folder, but when i try to make a make file for this machine i get this error

"/bin/sh: line 0: cd: ../../../../../../config/imake: No such file or directory
okay, continuing in programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/trident
+ rm -f Makefile.bak
+ mv -f Makefile Makefile.bak
../../../../../../config/imake/imake -I../../../../../../config/cf -DTOPDIR=../../../../../.. -DCURDIR=programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/trident
/bin/sh: ../../../../../../config/imake/imake: No such file or directory
make: *** [Makefile] Error 1".

HEEEEELLLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

try using knoppix to detect your hardware and proper config settings and then get back with the readout. i will help if i can.

Don't use Knoppix. Just type at the command prompt:
Code:

lspci
Post that stuff, and also
Code:

lsmod
and we'll look at it.
More than likely it's a minor thing you skipped or misread( Like I never do that....)

Been itching to get ahold of a via setup for awhile. Nobody ever posts in my 'DRI' thread about them....lol
