Verizon/Nortel USB760 Firmware Update
I've had more than my share of grief with a Verizon/Nortel USB760 (most likely, I thought, due to being in the woods with questionable signal strength). KPPP would report an error, I'd have to kill KPPP, unplug the device, wait for everything to settle down, plug the device back in and try 'er again. PITA.
Last week's Patch Tuesday, for a change, actually resulted in a Good Thing: connecting the Windows Verizon manager program to Verizon informed me that there was both a software upgrade and an firmware upgrade for the device. OK, update the management software and update the firmware while we're at it (and, oh, yeah, the blasted Windows junk too).
Will wonders never cease -- back to Slackware (13.1), connect, no drop-out, no having to unplug the device after using it (wouldn't reconnect otherwise), no nothing; just works like it ought to.
So, if you've got one of these it might be useful to hold your nose, boot Windows, and let the software and firmware get updated (yeah, I know, we don't give a hoot about the Windows software, but the firmware is a different story, eh?).
Hope this helps some.
