/var/log/packages and /var/log/setup

hi all ,my a friend use slackware11 and newer..he delete /var/log/packages and /var/log/setup directory..
i ask which way to reinstall them..thanks.

I don't think there's an easy way to re-install them after the initial system install, unless a backup was made. I suggest your friend backup and critial information in Slackware and re-install. Chalk up the deletion mistake to a learning incident. Maybe some else has a better idea?

If you remake that directory, the system should still work normally. You won't be able to uninstall stuff just by doing "removepkg", but you can reinstall that package so that the db file gets regenerated, then uninstall it. Depending on stuff in the install script, nasty stuff could be laying around your system, but that's a risk on every package.

Still, if you can, reinstallation is a much better(cleaner) option in the long run.
