Must be lots of old guys on Slackware judging from the build scripts on SBo:
Descent 1 and 2
Open Arena (Quake 3)
Unreal Tournament 2004
Rise of the Triad
And I see some support for shareware Heretic and Doom. I support the Descent 1 & 2 versions and I have great memories of playing all of these games way back when
I think a lot of us in the Slackware forum are in the 30-50 range.
I'm also well aware that many of the regulars in *other* forums (like General) are past retirement age.
gzdoom's license is non-commercial and xBRZ's license is GPL (yes, that's a problem), but I'm comfortable with having them as a SlackBuild and a patch.
Also, I'm currently playing a set of DOOM levels called Alien Vendetta. You should really try it, as I'm halfway through (playing with Crispy DOOM, which has crashed a few times) and it's turning out to be one of my best gaming experiences ever. There are 32 levels and every single one is a magnificent work of art. Skill 2 (which the designer recommended in a forum post) is equivalent to DOOM on Skill 4. Skill 3 (which I'm playing on) is equivalent to Plutonia on Skill 4. Skill 4 is for people who want to record replays to show off.
I ran into this for another game, I solved it by taking the 14.1 32-bit cxxlibs package, using explodepkg, removing everything except the lib I did need including the symlinks in doinst.sh, using makepkg on it to make a new package and then finally convertpkg-compat32 to make a multilib package for it.
Hey, guys. I don't normally resurrect old threads, but I thought this relevant, since a goodly number of us still play this oldie but goodie. I hadn't played UT2004 in months, but ran into the same problem the OP did in December 2015. Got to poking around in the ChangeLogs for the reason, and came across this:
This was part of the mass rebuild, and so I overlooked it initially.
I have uploaded a cxxlibs package (note that this is essentially orbea's solution sans the multilib part, as I am using the 64-bit executable) to take care of this problem. Again, just a heads-up for those who might be interested.

Reason: spelling
My purpose in posting the customized cxxlibs package wasn't to entice Pat to restore libstdc++.so.5 to aaa_elflibs (although it is appreciated), it was merely to solve an issue I was personally facing, and I didn't feel the need to suggest that it be re-introduced just for my sake. I was not sure who else might need to have the older library installed, and so I posted just for those who were running older games like UT2004.
