I've no experience with the K (or desktop) series, but I am typing this from a Lenovo 3000 N200 notebook, and I must say it's quite okay so far.
As I can't say anything about K, but during my ~3 months with this machine, I'd say Lenovo is worth it's price.
That Turbo Dial and the other "Zip-Zap-I-Rock" (tm) thingies seem useless by default to me, so don't expect much from them, especially under linux, but scanning through the other specs, I believe they will work perfectly.

; moreover, on the 3000 models specifically - I hear that the power dial is just a gimmick.
