Hello everyone, i would like to set my slackware box up to function so that i can access it from across the net to access web pages. Basically this is my attemp to be able to check my email, peruse bash.org and play browser games at school where pages like those are blocked. My school filters all internet traffic through websense. I thought about trying to setup a proxy, but im not sure that would solve the problem. so if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome.
Another thing to consider is at school aren't you on a windows machine? It's been a while but don't you need a program to use ssh tunneling? Which is the only way you would be able to get through your school network undetected (well you could probably just connect to it but ssh tunneling is so they don't know what you're doing).
thanks guys, im attempting to setup squid right now. as for using ssh tunneling, i think you are correct about what it does, but i dont really care if they figure out what im doing. ill update on monday or teusday when i get a chance to test it out at school.
and play browser games at school where pages like those are blocked.
Guess what: magical simple and reliable way to bypass those. Add "nyud.net:8090" to the end, for example, instead of "www.blockedgames.com", put "www.blockedgames.com.nyud.net:8090". God knows if your school will pick up on this...if they do, I can imagine they wouldn't like it. Proceed at your own risk.
Or you can always do the following (or program a script to do it for you):
Find the IP of desired site (xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa)
Add the following values: (xxx*256^3)+(yyy*256^2)+(zzz*256)+(aaa*1)
Type the resulting # into your browser.

for one, you are at school to learn not to play stupid games............
and two, those school computers DON'T BELONG to you, and you can be expelled for trying to hack, and/or bypass
school security procedures.............they are set to keep out the scum from destroying school data............and when you
get caught ( and you will )doing these things, don't come whining to us about it..............
