using rpm to update kernel?


i have compiled kernel-2.6.7 without any luck. could i use rpm2tgz to change fedora's kernel update package into a slackware kernel update package? if so where can i get the rpm package?

No this would be a categorically BAD idea. Crossing the streams bad. It might in theory work, but it is extremely unlikely. I would say impossible, but almost nothing is impossible, Others might not feel this way but even the suggestion smacks of sacrilege to me.

If you want to stick with slackware go to the top of the forum and read both kernel compiling guides carefully. If you are having a specific problem I would suggest posting a new thread asking for advice.

EDIT: Most of us had problems the first few times we tried compiling our own kernel. It get;s easier with practice.

Have you tried the kernel-generic-2.6.7.tgz package? It's a precompiled kernel on the 2nd CD.

i didnt know about that. all i would have to do is installpkg the package and it would take care of updating lilo and all? would i also be able to tweak it?

Has a good chapter on upgrading kernels. If you use the .tgz package all you would have to do is type lilo -v to upgrade lilo.
