I feel like I should know this, but I don't.

I made the mistake of installing Mandrake 9.2, and miss Slackware too much. I plan to wipe Mandrake and reinstall Slack. I have a 6 gig root partition now, and 67 gig home partition. Can I not format the home partition and use it with Slack? If I can, do I need to manually edit fstab?

I am chomping at the bit to rid myself of rpms and a slow system, and get back to the beauty of Slack. I just hate to lose all of the media files i have downloaded.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just don't format the partition during install and then add an entry to /etc/fstab to reflect it if you want it mounted automatically on boot, then mount it and you should be ready to roll.

You may also have to do

chown <user>.<user> -R /home/<user>

in order to set permissions correctly if the distros use different user numbers.

During your slack install, the setup program will ask you what you want to do with that partition. Here you can specify it's mount point (i.e. "/home"). It should go without a hitch. Just make sure the permissions on the home dirs are set properly
