user authentication with ldap on slackware?

Hi, I was just wondering if the slackware-box can make use of ldad for authenticating users. Browsing through google I found many links mentioning pam. Since slackware doesn't use pam (I guess for security reasons) I wanted to make sure if there's another possibility for ldap authentication of users.

I know that the newest version of Samba, v3 can do LDAP based authentication.

When I was investigating this I decided the easiest route would be to install PAM, then recompile all the packages that do any kind of authentiation so they are linked to PAM. You may find the LFS documentation useful for the this.

cheers

Jamie...
