USB port inspection and external DVD-writer on Slackware 10.2

Good day all,

I have a quick question, regarding my slackbox.
I have an old pc(1999) with two usb ports and I want to
buy an external DVD-rw [LG 2166 USB] with a usb port!

How can I make sure my slackware installation recognizes these ports (i haven't use them since I installed slack), is there a quick and dirty command for this purpose?

.....and is there a good chance that slackware 10.2 will recognize and accept the DVD-rw device?

my pc has old usb ports...while the dvd-rw device I want to buy has USB2 port, is that an added headacke ...for the slackbox to recognize the device?

...hmmmm I managed to squeeze three questions in one!

You can use the following:

lsusb
lsusb -v (verbose)
dmesg|grep -i usb
cat /pro/bus/usb

Since you use 10.2 it will recognize your usb ports using the appropriate modules, but if they are old as you say (USB-1) you cannot benefit of the speed of USB-2. I cannot say if this will be a prob for burning.

thanks for taking the time bathory.....!
I used the commands u wrote and it seems all ports
are in place and working...so I am going to cross my fingers
and buy the device cause I need it anyway for the other PCs as well.
