USB mouse trouble
I installed Slackware 10.2 a few days ago and I'm now at my wits end.
I've done searches on this site, as well as in Google and nothing I've done seems to get my USB mouse working. It can move vertically just not horizontally. I booted from a SLAX Live CD (in which my mouse worked fine), had a look at the xorg.conf file then copied the appropriate mouse settings to my file in Slackware - still no go. Has anyone here successfully got their USB mouse working in Slackware? I'm using a 3 button optical Acer brand mouse. |
Are you running kernel 2.4 or 2.6?
2.6 offers much better usb mouse support. |

Having my Logitech USB trackball mouse plugged in makes my system hang on booting up; with hotplug enabled, I can plug in the mouse after booting and in console mode, the screen shows some mouse activity.
I have not tried it with X as with the new install, I still haven't got X working - chicken and egg problem I feel... |
You can try and fight to get it working under 2.4 but I would just save yourself a few headaches and upgrade to 2.6.

You can do 10.2 install with test26.s(2.6.13) kernel. Review posts on installing with test26.s. Good luck. My logitec trackball works great for years setup as usb mouse with "IMPS/2" or "Auto" and /dev/mouse and "ZAxisMapping" "4 5". No gpm mouse though.
