USB LexarMedia 32MB Data-Key + KDE 3.2=USB/HD Access problems

Hello folks,

Well let me explain my problem. I am using a USB key for transferring files to and from various places. I have Slackware 10.0 installed with everything. I am using a stock installation (only CDs 1 and 2) so everything is default. I chose KDE because, well I like it.

Anyway, I mounted the usb key (mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/USB) and then proceeded to shutdown my system. The closing messages stated that the hotplug service had been interrupted and that it was not good. This is when everything went terribly horribly wrong.

I rebooted...normal startup messages...then disaster strikes...

...fsck came on saying the disk hadn't been checked in 49105 days, this is insane given I only installed it on Monday (4 days ago, not 134 years ago). I ignored the message....

Next it was the floppy stating it hadn't been used since June 1st 1970, strange, the KDE went all fsck'ed up....When I mounted the USB key again, and tried to copy and paste files(same mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/USB), KDE informed me that I was not allowed to add files to that device, I was logged in as root (not su, or sudo) , when I tried pasting files to me /hda2 partition (the / partition) not only did it list the last date accessed as Aug 2002 but the same message came up again...can anybody help, this thing is driving me crazy...

(Oh yeah...the key always worked it works on a knoppix system, it works on a ubuntu system, on Windows XP SP1, and Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows98 SE (4.10.2222A) and Mac OS 8.6 and Mac OSX 10.3.7)

[If it is just CMOS battery replacement fine, if is a reinstall fine...but just explain why :)]
