I have just installed Slackware 12.1 over Fedora 8. Just wanted to get a feel of it. I have been trying to get my EVDO USB modem to work, but sadly I am unable to get a satisfactory result to the modprobe command
In Fedora I used to do something like

# /sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=0x05c6 product=0x6000

but when I try the same without & with the /sbin/ part in Slackware, dmesg shows that the USB device hasnt been properly addressed.

In F8, I had used wvdial to connect to the net after establishing a link with the modem. In Slackware, I'm guessing it should be kppp? Right?

As far as the EVDO goes- As long as it's emulating USB, it should work with linux...

1)Can you post the error?

Regarding the PPP dialer... Back in the good old days, we used ppp-go. Then the infernal automobile came along and everything went to hell.

kppp is probably what you want (yes you can run it from any window enviroment as long as you have the KDE stuff installed).

If you really like wvppp, why not download it, compile it and use it?

Checkinstall makes nifty little Slackware packages...
