USB and sound problems

hi,
I just installed Slack 9.1 on my Sony Vaio PCG-GRZ630 and it works great but for a few things which I am not able to figure out.

1) The touchpad works fine but when I connect a USB mouse it doesn't detect it. Is there anything that needs to be changed in the XF86Config file? I tried something with it but didn't work.

2) The sound card is detected but I can't play anything through players like xmms. I tried to configure it using alsaconf but after that I started getting a beep whenever I press a key. Do I have to install any other drivers than ALSA.

Thank you in advance

Search again :)
Usually, the mouse device for USB mice isn't
linked to /dev/mouse when there's a PS/2
mouse in the system .... you'll have to set-up
X to use /dev/usb/mouse or something the like.

Have you played with mixer-settings? Are you
trying as user, or as root?

Cheers,
Tink
