Upgrading to Slackware 10

Hi.
Just obtained Slackware 10 . I still have Slackware 9.1 installed and I just wanted to check whether there's some way I can directly upgrade Slackware without reinstalling everything, or do I have to format everything and do it all from scratch again. Also, how can I learn something about X.org. You know, where the configuration files are located, how it works, that sort of thing.
Thanks.

From memory, I believe that there is a file on the Slack 10 install CD called UPGRADE.TXT. It covers this very topic.

My experience is that it is easier to just do a fresh install. Just back up /home and /etc (and anything else that you may want to save) onto a CD. Sometimes there are little quirks with upgrading. Takes less time (for me) to just do a fresh install and configure than to go hunting down the causes of quirks in the upgrade. YMMV.

As for xorg, the configuration file is /etc/X11/xorg.conf. The tools are "X -configure", and "xorg" followed by [TAB/TAB]. That should show you the three other tools. That makes a total of four. You can use any one of them. You may be able to simply use you existing /etc/X11/xfree86.conf (or whatever it was called) by copying it over and renaming it. Make sure the keyboard driver name is "kdb". That's the only "gotcha" that I recall.
