Help me to understand what I should do to upgrade 12.0 to 12.2.

By this time I got no Slackware installed - so, I need to install it from scratch. I have 12.0 DVD. But I want it to be 12.2 Is it possible?

Which packages I should download to get all necessary packages to get 12.2 out of 12.0?

Is there any list of files showing difference between 12.0, 12.1 and 12.2 contents and telling which packages must be replaced with others?

Is it easier to download the whole 12.2 distro?

It is possible. I am no expert, but if I were to do this, I would imagine myself with a 30% success rate.

As you are posting here, I presume you already have a running system with Internet access. So it's easier to download 12.2 and install than to upgrade.

If you install 12.0 first, then nearly all packages must be upgraded because the C library, C++ library and the compiler changed. Some platform-independent packages, such as linux-faqs, linux-howtos, and a few font packages, may be kept old, but this does not help a lot.

Full install of 12.2 is preferable.

You could have made things easier for an upgrade by looking at the 12.2 'UPGRADE.TXT'.

If someone did want to do this I would copy the dvd to my hard drive. I would then use mirror-slackware-current.sh (see the Upgrade HowTos in my signature) to update the local Slackware tree. This probably would not be worth it unless only wanting changes between one minor version, though (say 12.1-12.2).

As already mentioned, since you have not installed anything yet, it would be easier to just download the newest cds. You really don't have to download a whole dvd for Slackware, unless you want all of the sources to rebuild your system. I only download the specific SlackBuilds for the one or two official packages I rebuild regularly.

For those who have trouble downloading, you could always buy the dvd from the Slackware store and have it shipped to you.
