Upgrading kernel, what am I doing wrong?

I have just installed Slackware 10.1. I would like to upgrade to the 2.6 kernel on the second CD, but its not working. This is what I did.

From the directory containing the 2.6 kernel packahes, I ran:

upgradepkg kernel*.tgz

One of them didn't upgrade because it wasn't installed, but the rest all seemed to upgrade fine.

Then I ran:

lilo -v

After that I rebooted, expecting to see the new kernel, but chen I checked, I was still on 2.4. From the documentation I read, I have done everything right. Can someone tell me where I have gone wrong?

I have never used upgradepkg to change my kernel, but I think that it is supposed to work. Did you edit your lilo.conf file, and run lilo again? You will have to do that again to boot up with your new kernel.

Which one?

I recommend you compile your own 2.6 kernel. It may be daunting at first, but currently its the best way to install 2.6

did u configured "lilo.conf" ?

I suggest to compile kernel from source. It's not that hard.
