Question upgrading glibc on 8.1

I was trying to install WineX from source and it turns out I need GlibC 2.3 --- and I have 2.2, does anyone know of a way I could install 2.3/give me directions howto? and also will it break some programs if they rely solely on 2.2?

Unless you want a LOT of work and REALLY know what you're doing, I'd recommend either upgrading to 9, or grabbbing the new(ish) WINE package from linuxpackages.net (although that might require 9 as well, I'm not sure.)
If you upgrade glibc you have to recompile basically everything on your box, i flat out broke my slack 8.1 upgrading glibc, so I wouldn't recommend it.

I would also recommend switching to 9.0.

However, if you still want to do it, the following may be useful for you:
