Upgrading from Alternate Source (No Internet Connection)

Is it possible to upgrade a Slackware installation from a freshly d-loaded DVD? How would one go about this? Would the procedures in the Upgrade.txt work? I would assume they would need to be modified a bit, though, since I'm only upgrading the same version of Slackware. I'm not going from say 13.1 to 13.37. I just want to update a 13.37 current that I installed about three weeks ago to the now final release 13.37.

Thanks for any suggestions.

P.S. If I could get my silly Trendnet TEW 423IP wireless PCI card to work in Slack, I could upgrade the normal way with Slackpkg. Alas... that ain't a happening thing. :(

if you have installed -Current, then you can use slackpkg to do the rest
Code:

slackpkg update
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade-all

this should brings you to 13.37 Final :)

slackpkg can use the DVD as a source

Edit /etc/slackpkg/mirrors

Uncomment the line:
Code:

#cdrom://media/cdrom/
And comment out the the other mirror you were using (if any)

Then you can mount the DVD and update with the instructions willysr gave above.

@ Willy... no I-net access, though. I would have no issues at all if I had a connection on this system. It's my shop system outside in my backyard workshop. I had a cheap wireless dongle on it, but it was sooooo slow. I decided to try this Trendnet PCI card, but it's being problematic.

@ piratesmack... Heh! I had considered doing just that, but had a feeling that solution was just TOO EASY! I'll give that a shot. Thanks. :)

Thanks, guys. Will give it a try tomorrow sometime. I'll let you know what happens.

i used a local mirror to set up with slackpkg and yes, you can use the repository from Slackware 13.37 DVD for it too :)

You can use much more than that. You can use local media, NFS shares, other mounted shares, HTTP, rsync - pretty much any method that lets you access the files you can use with slackpkg to do an upgrade.

Don't forget "slackpkg clean-system".

Update via DVD worked like a charm. And as an added bonus, that Trendnet PCI wifi card auto-magically started working via wicd! Outstanding!

Thanks all! :)
