Upgrade KDE and Slackware
I was wondering how to upgrade the KDE to the latest version, so i searched in google and i found this link: http://alien.slackbook.org/ktown/4.4.2/ , so i was about to download and install all the packages there when i noticed it says "You will need to run a *development* snapshot of Slackware (meaning,slackware-current of around 30-mar-2010 or newer). These packages do *not* work on Slackware 13.0.", so i guess i need to upgrade slackware first.
Can you tell me how to do this? Should i first upgrade the slackware and then using the link above upgrade the KDE ? And how does the upgrade process of the slackware is behaving and what are its requirements - should i download slackware again or what ? Please explain it to me or give me some site with good guides, thank you. |
Hello,
I also have been thinking about upgrading to -current and have found this link: http://www.linuxandsecurity.net/foru....php?f=44&p=15 I haven't tried anything yet because of lack of time, so if you go with one of those solutions, please post your results. More detail about the SlackRoll package/update manager can be found on the SlackWiki. Kind regards, Eric |
If you're going to upgrade to -current from 13.0 I would rather use slackpkg. There are some gotchas to be aware of when moving to the .33 kernel. Please see this link.
http://rlworkman.net/howtos/libata-switchover You could also do a clean install after you create some -current CDs or a -current DVD using alienBOB's -current build script. http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/ Back up your stuff before you attempt any of this, in the event that something goes awry. |
Hey guys,
I followed the tutorial on the link EricTRA provided, and i used slackpkg and i did exactly like was written there - everything went without any problems, but when i rebooted i logged in my slackware and when i do cat /etc/slackware-version it still shows me like before the upgrading Slackware 13.0.0.0.0. Is this ok ? Or something is wrong ? And how can i find if the upgrade process has completed successfully and the slackware is really upgraded ? |
