updating to 2.6
OK I have installed Slackware 10.1 with the 2.4 kernel and i now want to upgrade in order to gain support for my wireless card. Can someone provide me with a walkthrough or a link to a guide that will tell me how to upgrade?thanks

Look at the thread "This is how I do it all" by shilo.
Another thing to do is do a google search for "compile 2.6 kernel slackware" (Or something like that). And if you download and untar the version you want to compile, there is a file called 'README' that gives you the basics. There are a lot of them out there, you just need to look for them. |
or you can follow instruction in the Slackware CD2
/testing/packages/linux-2.6.10/README.initrd |
Welcome to LQ!
Download the latest source from http://kernel.org to somewhere under your /home directory. Unpack the source and read ./linux-2.6.11.11/README and build it the way Linus says to do so. There is a good guide located here > http://www.linuxtux.org/~juhl/2.6-kernel-build.txt |
I've a modified version of DaOne's kernel guide, which worked for me and 6 others that confirmed to me.
http://xushi.co.uk/guides/kernel.php Its more or less the same, but with more explanations and step by step guides, to make you understand each step.. See if you like it. |
I support nazmin's approach. If you don't need a special configuration for your kernel the easiest way to go is to install the binaries from /testing along with the accompanying packages for ALSA.
However, I am not sure, if the default kernel supports WLAN. Check this first. If you don't need to compile your own kernel, it's normally not worth the effort. gargamel |
Why can't you use your wireless card under 2.4.29?
