updating slackware

Hi,
I'm just getting into slackware, and really loving it. I used to use Debian, and still do for my servers, but for my laptop, I find that Slack is the best! Anyway, I was wondering how I keep my slackware system up-to-date. I've searched around, and responses are vague at best. I have a feeling that it's something to do with monitoring slackware-current, and downloading what's new, and using upgradepkg. I'll also have to monitor some mailing lists for news on updates. Can anyone give me any advice/confirmation on this?

hmm, I use only slack and when I need some new versions or something I just compile them, on slack 8.1 I used glibc-2.3.0 long before there was a slack package. I personally hate packages and prefer compiling, you may also find a lot of performance/benefits to compile new stuff when you need it.

I agree. Would much rather compile from source also.
