Updating 8.1

OK, I have my Slack 8.1 loaded running awesome. Now, at work I downloaded (from a mirror) the whole /slackware-current/slackware directory. And was going to burn it to CD, take it home.

My question is. Do I need to update in a specifc order? Or could I just do a 'upgradepkg' on all the files on the CD. And let it do its thing? Or do you all have any suggestions on how to get my machine to current, without me goofin up and crashing it. Or do you think I should just leave it alone and stay with 8.1 defaults?

Thanks for any info you can provide me!

There is a UPGRADE.TXT in the slackware directory that explains how to upgrade the packages. However, I tried this and got a kernel panic. Hopefully someone here has done this and can shed some light as I am interested in this as well...or at the least, upgrading to 2.4.19.
